I'm comparing minor to superior. Who ever uses major runes?
Earthquake goes form 95 damage at 14 Earth to 105 damage at 16 Earth, an increase of 10.5%.
Some skills benefit more, e.g. Energy Burn does 9 * 9 = 81 damage at 14 Domination, and 11 * 9 = 99 damage at 16 domination, an increase in damage by 22%, but as a rough approximation I'd say the average difference in damage/heal output between a minor and a superior rune is about 10%.
EDIT: Fixed spelling - for her pleasure!

I usually use at least one superior on all of my PvE characters. My warrior uses Major for now.. I've been slowly transitioning some of them to major or minor's depending on how bad I need them. I try to stay around 500+ health at all times though now.
In PvP I never use a superior rune, besides Vigor, rarely use major..usually use minor.

I use sup runes on my headgear on all my charecters and in all my builds. The problem is the supply for them is alot higher than the demand.
- How many people need more than 1 of each, per class, for head gear? NONE.
- How many new people start playing and need them for charecters or heroes? VERY FEW.
- How many people when the get a drop stand in a town and advertize selling them? No one I have meet.
Will they make a comeback? after the enevitable sudodeath of gw1, I suspect that there will be an influx of players from gw2 that have not ever played gw1 that will want the HoM goodies.
So, not for a long time if at all.

-75 health makes enemies pick on you more, picking on your more WITH less health means more dying.
fyi more dying is bad.

I run my caster-characters with different headpieces and superior runes, in HM and NM. I can understand it not being the best idea for melee, esp in HM . . . but I think superior runes have their place to shine.

With hard mode, having higher HP to prevent an instant death spike actually matters. Also with the introduction of PvE skills, most players carry 2 or 3 of them. Runes don't affect these skills. It is not really worth sacrificing 75 hp to only improve 4 or 5 skills. Also, a lot of people the primary skills people use now are PvE skills. For example, Ebon Standard of Honor creates wtf damage for the entire party. That superior rune that adds 5 more damage for one player seems so insignificant to adding +10 armor ignoring damage to all allies.

Why are people even discussing whether or not to use sup runes in PvE? If you use them or not doesn't matter, it's PvE. You win regardless of your setup. Time saved using or not using superiors is almost unnoticeable.

Chalk me up as another person doing the impossible - heck my warrior has a sup sword rune, uses hundred blades, and only has a major vigor (all supposedly making him unplayable by the general community). He seems to not die and hasn't run into anything in PvE I can't handle (nm or hm). I've used the so called "good" builds and can't see them as being any easier to win or survive than the one I use.
I wouldn't play PvP with him, but then again I wouldn't play PvE with most of the PvP builds either. Why run counters to builds or tactics I will never see (and that is true both ways)?
But then I had also gone through prophecies with hench back when that was impossible, gone through TopK with them back when it was impossible, and done a few other impossible things in the game too.
There was a time when you were considered crazy to not have a superior rune - we all did fine then. Heck I recall when, even in PvP and especially in PvE, your warrior was ridiculed for not have 16 in your weapons attribute line. When HM first came out I also ran the higher HP builds but have since learned how to manage the mobs just fine running the high attribute builds I normally ran.
In PvE if 75 health is going to make or break you then you have MANY other issues going on.

in most cases i dont use sup runes, my monk use a sup vigor and nothing but minors for obvious reason, all my others dont use them simply because the damage, heal, or support isnt worth it at a couple of extra points. Now if your a mm having a sup does make a difference as you can then have 20 minions. Meh i say just leave them

^Agreed with Cosyfiep.
Everyone uses them on atleast one of their armor sets, so how is it going to make a comback exactly?

Warfare I have no superiors except for vigor on any of my characters. Then again I mainly do PvP and just PvE to kill time while I wait for guildies to get on.

Before the release of factions it was generally considered required to use sup runes in PvP too (even monks were considered OK to have them). It was sometime between Factions and Nightfall when the all high hp build starting being the accepted norm. It was really some of the unbalanced new skills that made it possible to spike well enough with an attribute lower than 16 and one could prot away most of the issues with lower HP (which is how I still run in PvE).
High HP builds didn't really start to bleed over into PvE until towards the release of nightfall and then only in the elite areas. Even then it wasn't until HM was released that it was really common, the only NM places it helped any were the factions elite areas and the Realm of Torment.
Even now in PvE land high HP is just easier, not more effective.

Hey, I remember people wondering wth I had 586 hp and 48 energy instead of the typical ~450 hp and 55 energy in a monk. I never used sup/major/radiant stuff before NF. I even had it explained to me (by my friend, who was a terrific monk before she left GW) that the extra energy was worth a heal, which could boost me up by over 100 hp, and I kept running into that mentality back then.
I've been running relatively high HP builds since I got my first max armor set, but it was only recently that people stopped going '...O.o What for?'
EDIT: I used to lag a lot on my old computer. Dead monks don't heal much.
